In NYC, and many other areas, we are getting close enough to spring to start eagerly awaiting its signs. Little streams running here and there as the snow melts away. A day when a hat and gloves seem optional. Maybe the sight of a brave crocus or other early-season flower emerging. And wait, is that perhaps a bud on that tree?

However, to the question of “Are we there yet?” the answer is, unfortunately, “No”. We need to hang on just a little longer before the sun is slightly stonger, the breeze milder, and the flowers and trees start to peek out from hibernation.

While we wait for these positive signs, here are some positive wishes to fill this seasonal hump period. With St. Patrick’s Day a couple of weeks away, a few upbeat messages from the Green Isle that might offer a whiff of spring for your spirits.

As sure as there are leprechauns to make a wish come true, tis nothing but the happiest of days I’m wishing you.

Like the shamrocks of Old Ireland may your joys grow all year through- and Irish luck and laughter be a part of all you do.

Lucky stars above you, sunshine on your way, many friends to love you, joy in work and play- laughter to outweigh each care, in your heart a song- and gladness waiting everywhere all your whole life long!

Many blessings to cheer you each day the year through and the luck of the Irish in all that you do.

Here’s hoping we’ve seen the last snowstorm, spring is on a fast track, and you are at least feeling sunny wherever you are.

If you’ve got a favorite positive/sunny message please add a comment and share it below.

Everywhere we look there is bad news about the economy and significant challenges to be faced. Governments, businesses, arts organizations, families, and individuals are all hunkering down to get through this difficult patch. The situation is serious, but, regardless, we must stay positive and hopeful so we can push on through. More than ever, we need to muster our creative energy to find new ways to tackle the problems we face.

Creativity can solve almost any problem. The creative act, the defeat of habit by originality, overcomes everything. –George Lois

We often hear that we need to be practical and pragmatic during times like these and that may be true, but if so, let it be a creative pragmatism that will open up new possibilities as it gets us past current problems.

Given that inspirational or thought-provoking quotes are included in each individually wrapped Sweet Muse brownie, it is understandable that occasionally people ask me what my favorite quote is. Frequently when they do, I stammer, “Uh, hmmm, well…” because there are so many that I love and trying to think of just one puts me into momentary brain lock.

But, I’d love to share favorite quotes on this blog, giving myself, and everyone who might wish to play along, ample time to consider the choices.

This first one I have taped above my desk. “Each day, and the living of it, has to be a conscious creation in which discipline and order are relieved with some play and pure foolishness.” — May Sarton

I like this quote because it reminds me that even though I might need to hunker down and make things happen on any given day, I must always remember to leave at least a little room for spontaneous play, a silly joke, a walk in the park, or a favorite treat and not take myself or my work too seriously. I don’t always adhere to the advice, but the quote helps to remind me to take breaks from the serious stuff each day to laugh and enjoy and to not put these simple pleasures off. With that, I think I’ll go take a moment to play!
